About Me

My name is Josh Kewley. I’m a principal and co-owner of Wired Right Electric in Scottsdale, AZ. Our company began as an electrical service company focused mostly on lighting design, remodels, and new construction. We have since shifted the focus of our company towards distributed audio and video and home automation. Our preferred automation system is NetStreams, which attracted us with its use of Internet Protocol.

I spend the majority of my time with Insario Corporation writing software for the .Net platform. My personal background is in programing, but I’ve had a passion for home automation since I was 7 or so, when I attached string to my light switches so I could toggle them on and off while sitting in bed.

  1. Josh,

I had a few questions about your experience with NetStreams. I am writing a driver to control the system with devices such as the iPhone and wanted to see if you knew a trick or two about running lua files on the devices?

    Thanks

  2. Was reading your posts about controlling Netstreams via RTI.
I have a client with a small Netstreams system. In a smoking room where we have a SL250, along with a LCD TV and a remote located satellite box. I set the client up with a T2C remote to operate the TV and satellite, using just a simple Xantech ir kit. We added the IRlinx to the SL250 and added the needed “macros” etc to the Netstreams programming. The emmiter from the Xantech is stuck right onto the IRlinx. This has worked well with the only issue I noticed was the slight delay between a button press and a response from the Netstreams.
By the way, your RTI T4 touch screen GUI’s look terrific, did you make them yourself?

  3. It turns out that the problems I’ve had are specific to the scenario where you are using an RTI remote to send RF trigger codes to an RP-6. The waveform produced by the RP-6 is imperfect, which creates reliability issues with DigiLinX. Look for an upcoming fix to the IRLinX firmware to address this.

  4. Josh,

My name is Dave, I am from Impressive Home Theaters in Bloomington, Illinois. Our company just took on Netstreams (some of the coolest automation I know we have ever seen) We were mainly your normal audio/video company doing plasmas, projection, etc. We recently decided to move up to a nice option for home automation and that is why we needed NetStreams. Everyone here had a basic understanding of TCP/IP, enough to get us rolling, but, we use Centralite lighting systems in our showroom. We use the Starlite system right now and it is working very efficiently so we don’t want to move on from it. The big question is on writing lua drivers so that it will work with NetStreams, keep in mind, none of us have ever done anything like this. So any kind of direction or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    David Dillon

  5. Hey there,

I couldn’t find an e-mail address so I’m posting here – please delete after you read!

I just wanted to tell you about a Lua debugger that we made that you might find useful: http://www.unknownworlds.com/decoda

It’s mostly used by game companies so far but it looks like it might speed your development too.

    Take care,

    -Charlie

  6. I’ll leave your post up, Charlie, in case anyone else might be interested in your IDE.

  7. Hey,

Are you still alive up there? Haven’t seen you on the board lately.

  8. Josh,
Have you had any luck with the Proliiphix dirver. I have a project coming up with 5 Tstats and I really would like to leave the Aprilaire system out and use the Proliphix. I had used the Proliphix before in another install and really liked the way they worked. This will be my first Digi install with HVAC and would appreciate feedback. I’d even be willing to pay you for your time on this. Thanks

  9. Tommy,
Haven’t looked at the Proliphix driver in a while. Last time I did it was working fairly well, but seemed to have problems when the Proliphix stats went offline. I reached out to NetStreams to help debug, but they’re not interested. Some day soon I’l delve back into it and try to find the problem. Richard on the NetStreams Forums might be a better contact for driver writing…

  10. Josh,

I am developping a theaterlinx module for prontoscript, so far no success. And i know what is missing, the ascii commands for theaterlinx and the connection. I have a PS module for speakerlinx and it works fine, but i cannot simply modify it. I has something to do with the connection from the pronto remote control and the ascii commands.. all i want to do is control the volume thru theaterlinx. Im using a denon AVR.

  11. Hi Josh,

I saw your name on the ReQuest Twitter page. I live in Scottsdale, work in the home automation/home theater industry, and thought I’d introduce myself.

    Phil
